droid hardware breakout

so the droid has a jack that has, from what I can tell from the accessory cables sold, a 3.5" input/output jack.

I'm guessing (god forbid they should tell you) that there is an input and two outputs(L andR) and ground. obviously (well, maybe obviously) ground is the nearest to the plastic, but does anybody have a clue what the other three are? and does the input interrupt the onboard mic?

I'd love to be able to plug a better mic or a mixing console or a guitar tuner into that jack. would take some serious adapting but I'm up to it. I can't believe nobody is selling a breakout for it yet.

well, I thought this thread would bring a bunch of answers that would make me feel even dumber but apparently I'm not as dumb as I thought.

OK so after this bombed I went to the verizon store. they didn't have a clue either.


kind of unbelieveable for all the tech crud on this thing nobody has even thought about the output.

one things for sure, when I figure it out, I'm selling the info.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to figure out a breakout for a 4-contact jack. Plug in an iPhone headset into it and see if the mic works; if it does, look up the breakout for iPhone (I'm pretty sure "I'm Feeling Lucky" would do it).
