Droid, how to stop the music app

Since the Verizon OTA upgrade to Froyo / 2.2 the problem is not as pronounced but it still occurs occasionally. It seems to occur when I have the headphones plugged into the phone and I connect the USB cable to charge the phone. I noticed it once after disconnecting and reconnecting the USB power cable but not when connecting to my computer via USB. It's still a pain that the OS insists that I want to hear the Music player and not something else of my own choosing...

LOL, happened to me for the first time today. Was listening to Pandora, went into a tunnel and suddenly the music on my card starts playing . Well that was nice but it wasn't playing (visually) in the stock player, or Mixzing, or Pandora. Didn't think about the notification shade and I was driving but was like WTF? Had phone almost 3 months and it's the first time it went Cylon on me. LOL it was playing a nice mix though.

I found that if I keep my music on an external SD card I can just pop it out and the music stops. Might be a No NO.. But it works for me.

Pause works just fine for me. Im not getting this. Pause=stop. I use mine every day never had a problem with the pause/stop button.

Is it that people don't realize that pause is stop or is something else going on.

OK after reading what I said it might look like I'm being a smarta$$ but I'm not. I am seriously just trying to understand exactly what the problem is so I can try to find a solution. If someone could explain why pause isn't working I'd love to know what it is thats happening.

I just purchased a Motorola T505 bluetooth FM transmitter for the car and if I am listening to music from the phone through the transmitter and then leave the car, when I come back to the car I have to shut the phone down, re-pair to the T505 and then start the music player app back up. The only solution that I have found is to kill the task before leaving the car. Backing out does NOT exit the music player. It is still running in the background paused. Need to be able to exit!!! Anyone find a music player that has an actual exit button? That is what the problem is plus more I'm sure (battery life, other bluetooth devices, etc). Going to give MortPlayer a try.

that is a no no. One of these days you will lose EVERYTHING on your card. When the phone is reading or writing to the card, and you pull it out, you will ruin the card.

Pause is just that, Pause. It doesn't stop the music from playing again when the device is disconnected and reconnected. We are sick of the music app starting on its own, at random. It's annoying, at the very least, and downright embarrassing on many occasions. I have many albums on my SD card, but only wish to listen to them when I choose to, not each and every time my phone connects to my car's Bluetooth connection.

You can 'stop' the player by clearing the playlist. Go to the playback screen, tap the playlist button, and press menu the clear playlist.

OMG.. My android is POSSESSED!! I cleared the playlist and deleted all of my playlist I created.. the stupid thing just started playing from the library... I pressed pause.. I exited the app and went on do doing something else.. Is it because I keep my earplugs in my ear and plugged into the phone? I really wish i could resolve this issue..:(

I have the same problem with my LG Optimus V, on my way to class at school, I like to listen to my music, but once I get to class I need to stop it quickly. When I first got my android I thought that "pause" was going to be the same as "Stop". Little did I know...While I was in math class an Avril Lavigne song started blasting, as well as in spanish class the next day..

The only way I can stop it from coming back on within the hour, is to shut the phone off and then turn it back on, everytime im done listening to music. After turning it back on, it won't randomly play until I've played at least one song.

If you don't use it, it won't randomly play. But when you do, you have to shut it off, and then turn it back on to stop it from randomly playing once your done. I know, it's a major pain, but it works.

Folks, install MortPlayer and set it as your default music player (Menu, Preferences, Headset, Use as default player). This will prevent Android OS from starting up the stock player.

Folks...check you apps settings... many of them have settings to stop thinhs like:

autoplay when Bluetooth connections is made

Autoplay when headset jack pressed

Check you settings to avoid mysterious starting of the music app

Yeah, I agree. I'm trying out some 3rd party music players, I'll let you know if any make things easier.
After trying many, for sound quality and UI, I found that PlayerPro actually has a quit button accessed by the menu key and it really quits!
But, then I found Neutron Music Player and felt the sound was greatly superior (nothing wrong with PlayerPro but....) and I'm back looking for ways to turn off Neutron and Pandora, each of which continue to use 5% of my battery for many hours and I don't know why.

Got my Android HTC Thunderbolt "paired" with my new car yesterday and discovered the only way to TURN OFF the music was to do a hard shutdown (total shutdown!) of the phone. Today, when I turned on the phone, the damn Music app was still playing!!!!! ...and draining my battery!! I am so ready to throw this phone out the car window....it's been a major PITA since the day I got it over a year ago. Now I see why so many people love their iPhones. Can't wait for my contract to be up.

Pause and stop are two different functions.

Pause means temporarily stop the music/movie for awhile.
Stop means you are done with the music/movie.
Exit means you are done with the application and you close it.
IMHO

Try Mortplayer, Free and it has an exit button when finished to close the app. I am using this until the google app is improved.

This is EXACTLY why I limit myself to "Command Line" play command (part of the sox application, under Ubuntu), on my Ubuntu systems. Because Ubuntu has the EXACTLY same issue that Android has.

I tried an early suggestion ("clearing" the "playlist"), which didn't seem to work on my LG phone, under Android 4.1.2. [and which should be IDENTICAL to how the "droid" works]. I could not find the "clear" function. I could unselect, but it "reselected" itself, when trying to back out, and the "Music" app / widget never lost the item it was playing, until I went into Settings / Application / Running / Force stop / Clear Data.

Finally, that worked. But that's pretty drastic, to just "implement a Stop" button, or Menu item.

Note: Rhythmbox is the "usual" music player, in Linux desktop systems. It ALSO doesn't have a STOP function, and ALSO has controversy, because of it. :-(
