the Galaxy Nexus is supposed to have a better screen but i noticed when i browse the net that the screen seems darker on the Nexus, why is that?

Seriously though, maybe the screen brightness was set to a low setting on the phone you were looking at. Just a guess.....

Yeah, I was going to say. Because my Nexus screen is pretty damn bright. Its easily viewable in direct sunlight.
