Droid Nears Its Million-Device Target

You really have to take these numbers with a grain of salt, as they come from "analysts" and not directly from either Motorola or Verizon.

Honestly, I think if the Droid were selling this well, Verizon would be trumpeting it from sea to shining sea in advertising and press releases. They are cocky, and they love to brag. So if it were selling like hotcakes, we'd hear about it. That's just Verizon's "thing".

Don't get me wrong, I want the Droid to sell well -- more Droids in more hands means more Android in the world which leads to more apps and etc. That's good for all of us who own Android phones, not just the Moto Droid.

Obviously, I could be wrong... but I just don't think the official numbers are going to match these analyst estimates. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Incorrect, Verizon has never published the number of units of any phone it has sold. It is their business practice. And before the DROID was released, they had already noted they would not publish or release how many units they sold.

It seams like a very popular item....I wooped it out at school to answer a text next to two guys txting with there iphones and 2 people asked if that was the new droid and I said yes and both of them said how they wanted one. Sadly allot of people I know upgraded to a lame feature phone like the env varients....that'l teach em to wait for a good phone.

The Droid commercials are doing more than a good job of nabbin' new device owners.

Prime Example: I have 2 brothers, 1 older, 1 younger. My older brother has had the Moto Droid since day 1.
My younger brother is the most stubborn individual that I know.
He is one of those people that swear all they'll ever own & use as far as cell phones go, are the cell phones that have a phonebook, and make calls.
I have tried & tried in the past to try & get him into a more high tech device.
Thats all my brother has sworn he ever wants from a phone.

Until now...The commercials eventually convinced AND DRILLED into my brother's brain, to walk into a VZW store, and see what all the hype was. The rest is history.
The Moto Droid bug has struck him. I asked him exactly what caused him to get it. My brother then explained he kept seeing the commercials...& got curious...
He has been a loyal Sprint customer for, I don't know, forever. Something like 6+ years.
Now my younger bro is hitting me up all the time askin' this & that about the Droid, sometimes even txts me just to remind ME of how much HE loves his new phone! LoL.

Welcome to Android, my brother.

I hope it sells well. Android is a great platform and the more hands it gets in, the better. I just can't wait until the Milestone (Droid with HSPA) launches next year in Canada.

I'll be there day one.
