Flurry, a company that has analytics tracking code on at least 1 app on 80% of iPhone and Android devices, has just released some incredibly interesting statistics. With that level of reach, the company is confident they can accurately estimate/report on unit sales of individual phone models. Want to see their estimate of Motorola Droid [...]

Blah blah blah....
Alot of comments about reasons why Moto Droid did better, all valid to a degree. Here is the thing that sticks out major for me, iPhone was basically the first smartphone to appear meaning one choice, when Droid came out, there were numerous choices with Apple, Winmo, Palm and even other Android products. 74 days is 74 days no matter how you cut it, and Droid sold more units against an already saturated market.
Do this report with the Incredible or Supersonic when they come out, let's see what happens.
Thanks, have a good day.

That's 74 days of data - what about the year and a half lead the iPhone has on the Droid? I don't understand the rabid fanboyism that permeates this and the console market. You make a choice and you like it, why do you have to then disparage others for not making that same choice? The only people that should be so uppity are stockholders and I don't think holders of either company are complaining...

When the iPhone was new, everyone wanted an iPhone. Right now there are much more Smartphone to choose from with al kinds of features. Maybe the people don't want to have a 'restricted' Apple product, maybe they want an open source OS, maybe they just want to try new stuff. Everyone has his/her opinion, but fact is: Apple is losing fanboys ;)

iPhone was the first smartphone? what?

OK, technically the first smartphone was made by IBM in 1992 and named Simon. The iPhone was the first smartphone that comes to people's minds when you ask, hence my comment. :D

Was going to comment on that myself, as Handspring (then Palm) made a decent name for themselves with the Trios back around 2000. Even then, I'd say the Blackberry was the first smartphone that people took notice of.

And didn't Apple originally argue against calling the iPhone a smartphone? I seem to remember them using that excuse when asked why it didn't support copy/paste. :D
