Sorry if this is a repeat, I really have looked and found only similar threads, but they are never recent enough to relate to the current situation.

there is absolutely no way to use a smart phone on VZW without having a data plan.......... there is a 200Mb plan for $20........ at least saves you $10 a month.......... but thats the smallest you can go with...... no way around it

Welcome to AF :D

Yes as posted above and from you have found there is no way to have a smartphone on VZW without a data plan. The only smartphones you can use on VZW even if unlocked will require a dataplan and VZW can see the MEID to confirm the type device you have. I am also not sure if the $20 for 200MB plan is still being offered by VZW since their site only shows the $30 for 2GB plan. With VZW if you want a premium device (i.e. smartphone) you must pay premium prices for the service.

I would have thought the same thing since they arent advertising the $20 plan anywhere....... however we just upgraded our daughter to a smartphone yesterday and it was available as an option for us..... on 3G at least...... if you get a 4G phone the smallest plan is the $30/2GB (which is currently through Jan 31st being doubled to $30/4Gb)..... which is a pretty good deal actually..... we ended up getting her a 4G just to get the extra 2Gb

I remember hearing about it but wasn't sure if I ever saw it. Thanks for confirming it still exists.

If the aim is to get cheap smartphone and cheap airtime but no data then buy a used android phone and activate with Page Plus via Kitty Wireless (my favorite PagePlus dealer). You can get the 1200min / 3000 txts for 29.95 a month and this will leverage the VZW network. It's not as good a coverage as VZW because I don't think it includes all of VZW's roaming agreements but it's a very good option for smartphone users who don't need mobile data.

You can easily pay less than 30/month - but that's just an example that's pretty high consumption.
