resolved, got it working see below

Got a chromecast for the bedroom tv earlier this week, I have installed the chromecast app on my motorola droid razr and sending netflix from my phone to tv works perfectly , my girlfriends you tube app showed the chromecast button in the you tube app as soon as we installed the chromecast app on her phone, but on my phone I do not have the chromecast button in youtube? we wboth have 4.1.2 but the ui on her droid razr HD is notably diffrent my the UI on my just plain razr

I tried removing the you tube updates (I cant fully remove youtube it just reverts to the preinstalled version) and then reinstalled the latest version, no change, I have no button,

any advise?

This is a must have, this is something that will drive me to rooting my phone if necessary, but I would prefer to get it working on the stock setup.

what happens if you try to search the Play Store for a Youtube app?

does it show that you have it installed? i'm thinking Moto put some alternate Youtube app.

That is an interesting idea, if it is is some kind of customized/molested version of the youtube app it is seamless with the play store, when I go to the you tube page on play store I have to option to open or uninstall, uninstalling brings it back to a previous version where i then have the option to open or update. I have gone through the uninstall-> update cycle just to come back to square one.

The latest update for Chromecast, build 13300, gives me some connection problems. Go to the Chromecast app, make sure it's being recognized, then restart YouTube.

I'm having to do that to get the button in Netflix.

I've had to reset it and even cycle power a few times.

well I don't know exactly what fixed it but here is what i did and it worked.

I uninstalled the you tube updates to bring you tube back to the preinstalled version,
I then went to the ap manager and disabled you tube,
then rebooted the phone,
I started up netflix and casted a show,
while it was playing I enabled you tube in the app manager and then updated youtube back to the current version

when I first opened it i had the chromecast button.

For some reason this worked but uninstalling the update and immediately re installing did not, I don't know why.
