Root Droid2 can't boot ROM or Clockwork Recovery

scottyo

Lurker
I am in desperate need of some guidance here.

I recently rooted my Droid 2 and just flashed a nightly build of CM7 because there aren't any stable versions out right now. Clockwork told me it was installed successfully. But now, the phone cannot boot the rom, and it cannot boot into recovery. When I try to power up normally I stay at the motorola screen, and then when I press power and x to try to boot into recovery I get the triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

Please help!!! I will do anything at this point.

Welcome to the forums, scottyo. Sorry to see you're having trouble with your rooted Droid 2.

I've placed your question/thread in the Droid 2 All Things Root sub-forum for you. Rooted D2 users will spot this and respond.

In the mean time, if I were you I'd have a look at this sticky thread that is right here in the same sub-forum:

http://androidforums.com/droid-2-al...-friendly-how-tos-w-instructional-videos.html

That sticky has several links posted which may lead to the kind of advice that you are seeking. ;)

That would be stock recovery. Press both vol buttons at the same time. to get into clockwork, try plugging the phone into ac only and do a battery pull quick and quickly insert it again. it should boot into CWM.

Ok I will try that. I was on Liberty and switched to CM7. I had troubles booting into clockwork before and then got bootstrapper. After that, it wanted to boot into recovery by default every time I turned the phone on. Could it be that when I flashed the new ROM I lost the bootstrapper and it is still trying to boot into clockwork and cannot do so?

yes. when you wipe /data and /cache and dalvik you are removing the apk's from the filesystem and flashing another zip files formats /system folder before it installs.

Are you running 2.3.3? If so you will need to do a complete wipe then back the version up to 2.3.2, after that a simple oneclick root will work to root the phone, once you go to transfer the CM7-nightly zip onto the root of your SD card simply install zip through CWM boot recovery. After everything is installed (if your CM7 install goes anything like mine) you will not have the market or the ability to update your rom manager so you will need to install GAPPS zip onto your SD root which can be found on goo-inside.me/gapps, then once again reboot into recovery and install zip file which will open up all the google powered apps, reboot normally then proceed to redownload all your apps. Do NOT try and reinstall any backed up apps. I am somewhat new to this but this was the process that took me many hours of reasearch and help from other individuals to discover so I hope it works for you. I literally just got it working last night so if a newbie like me can do it so can you. :)

P.S. once you are booted into CWM boot recovery utilizing the X button on the keyboard and you see the triangle hit both the up AND down volume toggles at the same time to access the CWM boot menu then proceed to use the volume keys to navigate the menu and the camera button as the "enter" button.
