Dropped my pixel 2 xl :(

Hi guys, Im in the uk fyi. I managed to drop my phone on the asphalt when exiting my car. It just slipped out of my pocket :( I got damaged the metal case on of the sides. It has 4 deep scratches. It is the side where the buttons are.
Im such a bum about things I oen so naturally want this to get fixed.
My phone is still in warranty but I have doubts this will apply. The phone is fully functional.
Can you pls advise as what to do, what costs to expect, where to go to get it fixed.
All advise will be much appreciated.

it has the two year warranty still but Im not sure if this covers accidents
It never hurts to ask. :)

Best case scenario: No problem, send it in and we'll replace it for free ... and give you a big screen TV for the inconvenience. :D

Worst case scenario: Once they stop laughing ... You'll have to pay almost as much as a new phone would cost just to get some scratches buffed out.

Reality: Probably somewhere in between that.

I'm with @dontpanicbobby , get a case that covers the scratches and consider yourself lucky. As long as it still works fine and the glass isn't chipped or cracked, it's only cosmetic.

thanks for all the answers guys ! I had a little search and found a guy who actually dropped his pixel 2 xl and was ready to accept his liability for the damage and pay for the fix. He was asking forum members for a service center in London. He eventually ended up on google support page and to his surprise he got sent a new device free of charge even when openly admitted that he dropped his pixel when it was actually out of the case for a split second

guys, what is the best way to contact ? I found a uk number but to my suprise there was some sort of eastern european auto reply telling me the office hours mon - fri. Cheers

My question is why didn't you have a case on the phone already? What the phone cost $850 $900 with tax and fees. In our house a case is a must we have a five and six year old. I think if you're going to invest $500 or more in a phone you should take steps to protect it

thanks. I surely will get in touch with. Want this sorted either way, new phone ( seen $84 ) for new back cover or I stick with my phone and loose on resale ( not the preferred option). Either way I will reply

I agree with you. Should have bought a case. But! I had phones with cases always and it always defeated the pleasure of the actual case. The case made it thicker, heavier, less prettier. And that one moment I took it out of the case I dropped it on the escalator :(
I am very fussy about my var, phone etc so thought I always look after everything so why have a case, just be carefull. And here we go... 3 mo ths on and I have scratched the side of the phone.
Wish my luck m8

The only Android I have ever owned and use with a case was the T-Mobile HTC G2. My previous phones after that which were the Samsung galaxy s3, nexus 4, LG L90, Nexus 6 and now an LG G6 all had cases. With my Nexus 6 I eventually had six cases two clear, one white, a red case, black case and one that was black and red. Two of them had kick stands. I have never been concerned with whether a phone looks pretty or stylish. I am not worried about impressing people because I have the latest and greatest phone.

little update, in US they sell back housing for $84. This gives me a slight hope of actually getting it done as I wont spend over £150 for the work...not worth it for me.
The authorised repair centers are mon - fri so will have to wait what they have to offer.

so got a quote of £170 for the repair. Takes 2-3 weeks, so thats it. Not worth it in my opinion. The resale when it comes wint be 170 higher regardless if it has few stonechips on one side.
Just wish I was in US... $84 for the housing.

PS: why in Uk we are always ripped off?☹️

You should be happy you don't have Carrier restrictions. That's right isn't it? Once you buy a phone in the UK you can choose your carrier? Brexit confuses me.
Depends how you buy the phone. You can buy phones subsidised through the carrier, in which case they are generally locked to that carrier's SIMs (though they are forced to offer an unlock after some period). Unlocked, carrier-free phones are more widely available and more popular than in the US, but a lot still buy the subsidised version (lower upfront cost, higher cost overall).

Though the biggest independent chain here sells subsidised unlocked and unbranded phones, so IMO there's no reason to suffer a branded handset here.
