Dropped S7 Edge on pebble, screen broken. What should I buy for protection? Had a case.

I was using an otterbox case. It fell flat, face-down on the sidewalk. The lips didn't stop the pebble on the sidewalk from hitting the screen. That little pebble put a hole right through the screen and spiderweb cracks.

Paying 250 dollars on top of warranty to have a replacement sent to me. First phone I've had break..

Is there a strong screen protector I could use? What is recommended? Should I pick a different case too?

My old HTC One M8 was an indestructible monster.

The problem with Gorilla Glass 4 is that while it's just as scratch resistant as Gorilla 3, it's also thinner, to make it lighter, but that also makes it more likely to crack. The M8 I think still had Gorilla 2 which was still a thick slab, hence tougher against breaking.

I'd think you'd want a glass screen protector that offloads some of the impact to the case, which means built in ones to the cases. Other than just taking better care of not dropping the phone.

I love my otterbox.
I've kept one of their defender series cases on each of my phones, still, if you drop it just right, it'll ruin your day.
For my current phone, I bought an extra holster clip, off of eBay, for a few dollars. I removed the belt clip entirely, filled in the gap with an epoxy, and keep that over the screen at all times.

Unless you must absolutely have the S7 Edge model, I recommend going with the S7 Active.

Check it out on YouTube. It's the only phone to pass every one of these guys' drop tests. Even 50 drops from over 5 feet, mechanically controlled for screen down landings didn't even cause a scratch, while the Edge, and most all other phones, get a shattered screen.

It is Gorilla Glass 4, but practically the next generation of it on the Active.

Otherwise, considering that you had your phone in the Otterbox and all, and it still couldn't protect your screen, there's not much more you can do than just be more careful next time.

I'd give a tempered glass protector a shot next time, if you can't get/ don't want the Active, and just be careful and hope for the best. Also, make sure the case can stop the screen from making contact with the ground with bumper guards at the top and bottom of the phone, preferably with shock protection.

Hybrid cases are awesome, btw, or anything that at least uses TPU. But hybrids are the best, if done right. Like "Obliq" cases. Perfect hybrid cases.

Don't get me wrong, the Edge has the most beautiful display of any phone, but all the S7's are amazing. But I chose the Active because of the different Gorilla Glass 4 screen and the 4000 mah battery. There's more reasons, but I'll stop here.
