Help Dropping wireless

I have wireless connected to my netgear router which has wifi capabilities and the wifi is switched on. but the connection only seems to last for a few minutes before my xperia drops the connection and starts scanning again. it also disconnects at random intervals too which makes ti hard to use well. The netgear has 'auto' switched on for the channels, but seems to prefer channel 1, whereas the app 'wifi analyzer' says that the best channel is channel 14, but the netgear only goes up to 13! The xperia likes to connect to someone else's wifi on channel 11, instead of the netgear which is only six feet away!

How can I get a good connection please, which lasts and isnt dropped? Preferably my netgear which I have control over?

Best test would be if you could connect to another wireless network. Like at a friends or coffee shop or somewhere.

If the connection works fine elsewhere it is most likely the router or a setting on the router or something on your network.

If the connection is fine elsewhere and the phone stays connected just fine, then what type of netgear router is it? I had a crappy D-Link wireless router that I had been using for 6 years and finally replaced it two months ago....huge difference. Dual channel router...cheapest one...but still. For me, my wireless router couldn't handle a DLNA server and minor torrenting and a wireless connection. But no problems with the new one.

Have you tried disconnecting all other devices on your network and just using your wireless connection?

Apart from that, has this wireless connection problem only started happening after an upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3 or something?

One last thing I could suggest is, you could change the wireless security type. Sometimes that works (some wireless routers just seem to handle some types of security better than others) Like try using PSK2 instead or PSK1 or WPA or WEP or whatever. Try changing it around and see if it makes a difference...or even go with no security for a couple minutes to test it out.

My guess is upgrade issue or poor wireless router...but it could be anything.

I've finally solved this with the help of a friend by rebooting my router, and now i get extremely good wireless connection to it. Its as if the router got confused and started dropping connections.

If restarting the router helped then you may also want to jump onto the Market and download Wifistatic as this can help prevent this from happening again.
