Dummy Phone Loophole Question (Family Plan)

I am currently a subsidiary in a family plan and am trying to keep unlimited data on my current phone. I am aware of using an upgrade on a "dumb" line and transferring the phone to the "smart" line to keep the unlimited data but my question is since I am not the primary representative for the collection of lines would the other "dumb" phone line have to be present at the time of upgrade?

If so, are there any other deals that Verizon might be able to offer me regarding switching to capped data (not the Edge/6gb plan)?

In order to do anything with the account, you must be the account holder or be on the account as an account manager. As for the dumbphone line, the dumbphone doesn't need to be there, but it makes things go more smoothly as far as reactivating the dumphone and not bein charged a prorated rate for a data package for when you do actually activate the dumbphone. If you never reactivate the dumphone, you get charged the full rate for a data package on a ghost line.

Thanks a bunch.

Unfortunately its looking like there are no available upgrades except my own on the family plan. I typically dont go past 2gb per month but besides the lame Edge deal is there anything that VZW might be able to do to ease me into capped data?

Aka will kicking and screamming or begging and pleading convince them to throw an extra gig or two onto the plan? I'm not sure what kind of free the employees have with that type of thing.

I've only heard about two deals going on recently. The first is the Edge/6GB plan that you mention in the OP, and the other is a single line loyalty plan which includes unlimited talk & text + 2GB of data for $60/month. As far as I know, there aren't equivalent loyalty plans with more data.

The sales rep in the store can't make up a plan or make modifications to a plan, they have to sign you up for a plan that already exists. So unless there's something out there that hasn't really gotten around on the internet yet (which is certainly possible), they won't be able to do much for you. Maybe wait until the holidays and see if they come up with some new incentive plans?

I tried all that when it was cheaper for me & the wife to switch to a family plan instead of keeping our individual plans we originally had.

The SEP ended up giving me less data for more money in the end. SEP with 2gb of data for $30, plus share it with the wife, while the old plan gave me 4gb for $20, single plan.

The good part is the unlimited Talk/Text, which the wife need, she uses talk more then data, and I use data more then talk.
