Dumping AT*T

Hi there, not sure where to ask this.

I previously had AT*T as a carrier. i had a galaxy note pro 12 inch tablet and two galaxy note III phones.

What I would like to know is if it's possible, and if so how, to get rid of my AT*T images with all their garbage.

Since i ended my service there I'm pretty sure i'm not able to update my devices anymore anyway.

is there a way to get rid of the AT*T image and get a generic android install here?

You can put a custom ROM on the phone to remove AT&T branding, check the rooting section for your phone:

The two main advantages of rooting a phone are being able to put a custom ROM on the phone and the ability to install apps that require root.

Two downsides - there is a small chance you can brick the phone, and if it's newer you may void the warranty.
