Duplicate Calendar Notifications

So, I installed the official Google Calendar app on my RAZR MAXX HD, and have been liking it quite a bit.

I've run into one small annoying problem since then - for every calendar event I have that is set to send a notification, I now get two notifications. One I think is like the built-in Calendar notification - selecting it gives me a list of calendar notifications and the option to dismiss. The second notification I get opens up the calendar event itself in the Google Calendar app.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to disable one or the other? I'd prefer to just get one Calendar notification for an event.

Google Calendar, in the settings menu, under General Settings, and Notifications (check box).

I actually probably should have been more explicit - I think I'm fine with the notifications from the Google Calendar app. What I think I want to disable are the other notifications I get (that I guess are like built in event notifications, Motorola calendar notifications or something).

EDIT: Perhaps I'm confused. I just looked in my Apps, and have both Calendar apps. For some reason I was thinking the one that was already built-in was a different app (it seems to have a custom icon that actually changes to show the current date, unlike the Google Calendar app). However, the UI seems to be the same.

So, for now I'm just deleting the Google Calendar app I downloaded.

Does anyone know what the benefits are of the Google Calendar app versus the bundled one? They both seem to be generally the same, other than the custom icon.

I am so confused.

I thought the calendar that came with Android phones WAS google calendar?

Isn't the stock calendar synced with your google account?

Yeah - I think that may be what I'm confused about. So, it looks like the stock calendar that came with the Droid RAZR MAXX HD is the Google Calendar (the one that is also available on the play store and requires ICS) - it's a novelty to me because I came from a Droid Charge that was stuck on Gingerbread.

I didn't realize it I guess when I installed the Google Calendar from the Play Store.

It did seem that the version numbers are different though, but the only other difference I think I could see is that the stock calendar that is already preinstalled on my RAZR MAXX HD seems to have a custom icon that actually shows today's date (where the one I downloaded from the Play Store doesn't have a dynamic icon).

So for now I've just uninstalled the version of Google Calendar that I downloaded. I would be curious to hear what the difference is, if any, though, other than the custom icon (which actually seems like an improvement since it's dynamic on the stock built-in one).

Thanks for this thread, I also noticed the google calendar app in the play store, and was like WTF! I already have the calendar app :)

Stock, under about it shows build version 4.1.1-39, no idea about the one in play.
