Help E4GT started talking...

OK, I tried searching, but all I keep getting a a bunch of irrelevant stuff...

My wife's Epic 4G Touch started "talking" to her all of a sudden a few days ago. It announces incoming text messages, caller Id, and some other things. I've been through all of the settings and just can't figure out what's causing it. I've also found some references to accessibility option doing something like this, but I've also checked it on her phone and it's definitely disabled. It's driving her nuts, and she's almost to the point where she wants to just go buy a new phone. Has anyone seen this happening? Is there a way to turn it off? TIA.

Check to see if driving mode is on. There's a widget with 3 buttons on it, one of which is driving mode. If the car is green, it's on. If you turn it off, the talking out loud should cease.

Which widget is that? I looked through mine and don't see one like you describe.

This one... (the arrows are pointing at the buttons that you don't care about for the purpose of this post's subject)

...Or else you can access it from the voice talk app...

Thanks Nevis, I see the widget now. I must have scrolled by it earlier when looking for it.

Thanks, Nevis. That sure did it. Happy wife, happy life... :D

My 7 year old got a hold of my phone once and some how managed to get driving mode turned on, and I had never used it before so I had ZERO idea why my phone was talking to me lol. Feature is quite useful in the car though.

I had a problem with the driving mode turning on by itself. The phone would just be sitting on the table in sleep mode, and all of a sudden out of nowhere it would just wake up and start talking.

It had this problem and about 9 other strange problems. Thinks like random crashing, overheating, etc... Sprint replaced the phone as it was only 3 months old

Well, it looks like the talking problem is back, and this time the driving mode is off, yet the phone still talks. I've checked the accessibility options again, turned the driving mode on and off several times just to make sure, but nothing helps. It's like the phone is possessed and has a mind of its own...
