ebook reader

I use WordPlayer & it works fine. By the way I want to mention the use of Calibre. It converts & hosts pretty much every format of ebook I have & my collection is fairly extensive. Really enjoying the combo.
 
I had Laputa but it went blah (force close all the time with last up date) a couple of days back and I uninstalled it
 
Aldiko is probably the best one out there in terms of functionality, with FBReader running a close second. Both read non-DRM'd books (.epub, FBreader also handles one other format I think). Books with DRM need to either be converted on the desktop or read with a special app for that DRM type or vendor - I know that B&N and Amazon both have apps in the Market, but I'm not sure about other DRM formats. If you want to find out more about format conversion and places to (legally) find free or inexpensive books, Mobileread is generally a good source of information.
 
I chose the Nook app because I have the Nook hardware and a ton of B&N books. I really like the app. Bonus points to the devs, they've set it up now so you can easily sideload books on there and then you're not limited to B&N books on the Nook app.
 
Hooked on Aldiko with Calibre if I need to convert a book from my computer to epub format. Quick and painless. Both are great apps.

Sense all or most of my books are in text or .PDF format I just take the text file drag it over to their free DropBook program

and it creates the .pdb file.
Copy that file to the ereader folder on the sim and there you go.

I think this will be my last try before I give up. I have the PDF copy of the Sun Certified Java programmer book I want to view on my phone. The adobe app is worthless because there is no search or way to jump chapther. Laputa is lame too due to lack of features (no search). I tried Aldiko, but I could not get Calibre to convert it correctly (chapters won't work same as laputa). It's kind of hard to jump to the right place is an 890 page book, without some way to distinguish chapters....
 
For PDF the best reader is 'RepliGo'.
Has a search function and is good with big documents :)

Same for me. Aldiko is a fantastic app (espeically when paired up with Calibre). Not quite as nice as Stanza (coming from an ipod Touch), but almost there. For me, having an eBook reader was the sole motivator for me to get an Android phone (to replace the ipod Touch).

+1 Love aldiko/calibre combo.
Only complaint is no page counter, have to go to menu>show progress and only get the percentage read:(
 
I've used Aldiko and Calibre since I picked up my phone. Aldiko was actually the very first app I installed. Lately I have been drifting over to the Kindle app though. The selection on Amazon is great and the ability to convert books with calibre to .prc makes it just as functional as Aldiko with about half the start up time.

You may want to take a look at Mobi Pocket Creator. It will convert and I think you can create chapter links (never tried though) in most books.

Thought the amazon app was .azw? Had some of those that my sister emailed me(she has a kindle) and i couldn't get the kindle app to recognize them??

I haven't seen anything in an .azw format. If you download any of their samples or free books you will see that they are all .prc. From what I have seen, it will take any .prc file too. I have about 200 from my Palm days. The only thing I have trouble with is getting cover art on my converted books. For some reason it just won't take them.

Azw's she sent me load in the kindle app on pc but don't sync to my phone, nor can i find anyway to even attempt to open them in the phone app. So will kindle app search your sd card or did you have to put them in a certain folder?
Course haven't messed with it in over a month.

Download a free book from amazon and it will create a Kindle folder on the SD card. You can then place any .prc file that you already have in that folder.
 
Is it just me or does the need to have a converter seem really old school for a device with the power these phones have? Why can't I find an app that can load txt, html, or pdf files as easily as it seems it should be. Don't get me wrong I've been using a converter since I got my PalmIII (iSilo) but I never liked it and the need just seems downright anachronistic these days.

Also had a problem with programs that couldn't remember what book I was reading 2 days ago (nevermind what page) but FBreader at least does that.
