Edge plan the only way to upgrade yearly versus every 2 years?

I've heard/read both good and bad opinions on the Edge plan but is it the only way to upgrade yearly(without paying full price for phones upfront) versus every other year? I'm someone who begins experiencing issues with my phones after 6-8 months without fail. It's been that way with pretty much every smartphone I've ever had going back to my 1st one(Touch Pro). Of course I've had user damage issues with a few of them as most of us have had but the majority of the time I've had issue that weren't preceded by the phones being physically damaged. I even had a Sprint tech once tell me that he hadn't seen anyone have the multitude of issues I had and speculated that I might be one of the rare people who had a stronger than normal magnetic field that was causing issues with my phones over time. Crazy, i know. When functioning correctly I have no issue keeping a phone for the full 2 years of my contract before upgrading but when I can't even get through a full year without issues it makes me want to change phones more frequently but, unlike Sprint, VW offers no discounts after the 1st year of your contract. That's one of the few things I miss about Sprint.

I'm considering the Edge plan but the negative opinions of it are making it hard for me to pull the trigger.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I decided to give the Edge program a try but am going to wait until the Note 5 & S6 Edge Plus phones roll out in about a month or so.

that guy is feeding you a line of horse pucky, no one on this planet has enough energy in their body to effect a watch, or a cellphone.

physical abuse will kill them, software messing will brick them.

The Edge Plan is a highly personal thing, no one can advise you as to how well it will suit your needs.
For me, it just simply does not work out financially.
I buy my phones for $0.99 if I can ( about half of them ), and $99 the rest of the time.
I never pay more than $99 for a two year term....
I could care less about being tied to a contract, I have been with Verizon now for 22+ years, so what difference does a contract make? it makes it cheaper for me to get a new phone. although, I have to wait 2 years to do that....
or, by staggering the 3 contracts I have, I can use the upgrades from the other two accounts to get me a new playtoy earlier.

sometimes.... recently the wife had to have a new phone..... that one cost $99 bux....
the daughter got a new Windows phone almost 3 years ago, and does not want to let it go. She is FRUGAL and refuses to let me pay for a new phone as long as the one she has continues to work...
the charging port went bad, she thought it was going to have to be junked. I told her to buy a Qi Pad and wireless charger for it.... she found one that was reasonable, and problem solved.
