Help Edit Excel doc on phone's SD from Win7

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 phone with a 4GB SD card inserted, when I connect the phone to my Win7 PC I'm able to open files (like pictures, documents, etc) but when I open an Excel file (using Office 2010) it opens in ReadOnly mode, I can't make changes and save it back to the SD card. I can however move the Excel file to my Win7 desktop, edit it, then move it back; but that seems awfully tedious.
Any ways I can leave it on the SD card on the phone and still edit/save it from Office on my PC?

FYI, I used to do this on my Droid 3 all the time, is there a setting I need to change on the S3 to enable me to do this again?

Anyone have any idea how to enable the editing of an Excel file on the phone's SD card without having to move it off the card first?
