Edited personal dict to accepted "i.e.", but still getting autocorrect of "I.e." ... ?

This is such a pet peeve of mine. I got this in my BB, too. But editing the personal dictionary didn't fix the issue so was wondering if, instead, there was a way to fix the auto-correct, like one would in, say, Micro$oft applications?

I'd really like my cell to understand that i.e., and e.g., are the correct forms of these two 'words'.

You'd have to rewrite the autocorrect code for the letter I standing alone at the end of a sentence, to check whether it's followed by an "e." Since that's in the firmware, you'd have to find the code first. Use what I call "textlish" - texting English. IOW, ie, not i.e. It's grammatically incorrect, but you know what they say about engineers and English. (They also say that the exception proves the rule, and unless I miss an error in a post because of my cataracts, I think I understand and write my native language pretty well.)

All I got from that is ... that it can't be done ... right?

<sigh> No, I'm not going to start writing ie instead of i.e., - that's for sure! <lol> I've adapted to a lot of textlish (I _like_ that! Good new term to add to this new lexicon!) but there are certain things I don't do and that's one of them.

So ... I'm going to be fiddling still when I write i.e., re-typing till it sticks! I've been doing that for a few years now so will just have to keep going until someone comes up with a proper auto-correct for the Android (vs. just a dictionary/list type of solution).

It's perfectly acceptable these days to just lose the full stops in this sort of abbreviation; it's quite common to see abbreviations like "ie" or "eg" written as though they were words.

Not really the answer to your question but perhaps a sideways option you may consider to get around the annoyance.
