Eliminating association for .txt file

Just today, I've been unable to open .txt files from my File browser, something I've always been able to do in the nearly two years I've had my Droid Razr. I haven't upgraded the OS recently.

What happens is that when I click on a .txt file to open it, the Files app freezes and exits and I get the message "Unfortunately, Files has stopped".

The only change I can think of recently making is this: When I opened a .txt file before, it asked me which program I wanted to use to open it. I chose something like "HTML DB text editor", and selected that it should ALWAYS open .txt files.

I can still open my .txt files using my QuickOffice app, so the files are clearly not corrupted.

How do I unassociate .txt files with "DB text editor"?

There are about a dozen "free default program" apps - almost any of them will associate/disassociate .txt files.

Is there a solution within the phone's settings, so I could solve the problem without downloading a new app? If not I could download an app, but I really thought there was something in the settings where I could undo the associations. I just can't seem to find it.

That's what I was trying to do, but I couldn't find the HTML DB text editor listed anywhere.

However, I just realized that it's not a default Android app, but a Dropbox-related one. I must have recently updated my Dropbox version and apparently that text editor is gone or changed. So, I then went to Dropbox and cleared the default...and now I can open .txt files again. Thank you so much!

It does suck to lose that Dropbox text editor...it was so useful.

found this elsewhere from a few years ago, don't know if it's still valid

Good Luck
