Help Email issues

Just got my new phone and I'm having an issue with the email on my phone not syncing with my computer. If I delete messages on my computer, they are showing up on my phone as read. Likewise if I delete from phone they are still showing up on the computer.

Tried the stock email app and the go launcher widget and have the same problem with both. It's an aol email btw and sync is set to on.

I had a droid incredible before and the email sync worked perfectly.

Is there a way to fix this?
 
I've been bitching about my AOL account for several days on here and I think I finally got it to work right. Not sure what did the trick, I wound up deleting everything that wasn't working, rebooted the phone, it said "Oh look! We found an AOL account!" I deleted that one, rebooted the phone once more ( a true power off and power on both times, not a restart) and checked accounts again for a rogue AOL listing. Nothing. So then I went back to the native AOL client in the accounts and synch>add accounts>email>email types list. Where it had hosed, locked up, couldn't connect, blah blah blah... it connected almost immediately, synched, and seems to be working fine now. There's a little bit of delay in exact synching, but compared to all the other crappy ways it wasn't working, I can live with that. And I have to wonder if maybe AOL wasn't having a server issue or something when I first started trying to set up my account when I got my phone last week.

ETA - won't send. This really sucks. As a side note, I got a "congratulations, your account is set up" email from Verizon, talking about the unified mail service on their non-existent sync page. I wonder if that is contributing to all our email issues.
