Email notification badge count incorrect

mreid72

Lurker
First, I have discovered that with my new Galaxy S9 that notification badges are all screwed up. I've seen numerous posts complaining about this, and there doesn't seem to be a good answer or fix.

However, many people have suggested using Nova Launcher with Tesla Unread for notification badges. I have that installed, and I'm now getting them. Unfortunately, I've noticed that for my email (I'm using the stock email app), the badge count is incorrect. For instance, it's currently notifying me of 10 unread email messages, but when I go into my email, I have 42!

I have all the appropriate app notification settings turned on EVERYwhere.

Please help me fix this!

Are you certain that you are looking for all mail, including your junk folder? All unread will show the high number

Yes, I've gone through and counted the unread messages in my inbox, and it's 43 now due to an email about your reply coming in. And yet the app is showing 11 unread emails. It was previously showing 10, but I guess this new email made it go up by 1. It's still off by a large margin, however.

Before the Nova 7 update, I used Teslaunread and my email count didn't include the unread emails in my Spam mailbox. With the update, my email Icon had the numbers correct but they disappeared as soon as the app was opened.

I might have found a way to go back to Nova 6 dated May 2021. There is a website that has older versions of most apps. This is for Nova 6:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/tesla...auncher-6-2-19-android-apk-download/download/
It has Teslaunread and Nova version 6. You can't install Nova 6 over Nova 7 so you have to uninstall version 7 and then install 6. You'd have to make a backup of Nova first. If you don't have recent backups of Nova 6, then you'd have to use a Nova 7 backup and I don't know if that will work. Also, Nova 6 backups were never very good. They left out enough things to make it major chore to get things back they way they were. I'm holding off for a while.
Good luck

I agree. For the first time in years, I'm thinking of dumping it. I'm evening thinking of replacing my LG V40 with a Pixel 6 when they arrive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The bad part about this is, for the most part, I can manage my phone using just about any phone on the market, but for what I used to consider the pinnacle of launchers to stab us in the back like this could be a death blow to android.

I would agree except I cannot bring myself to use an Apple product. I started with mainframes in high school, Fortran & basic in college and PC's after that. I just can't use an IPhone for those reasons and my most important app is my calendar and it's not on IOS. So I'm stuck with Android. And instead of trying to work with the different versions of the different manufacturers, I'll go straight to Google and get updates on time. (I'm not crazy about Google either, but I'm stuck)

Whoa there, hoss.

I ain't gonna use any, ANY apple product, either.

The Boss Lady is on her second pixel phone already

Ha,ha,ha! I wasn't sure what you meant by "any phone on the market". Does the little lady like her Pixels? I checked their forum and I didn't see many complaints. I figure there's no point buying one now when the 6 is due soon. I figure with a new phone I can drop Nova and start from scratch.

Her first was the pixel 2.
She's like me and keeps her gear until it starts causing issues, so when it started acting up, she jumped to pixel 4.

Helping her set it up was the only time I've played around with it, but I was generally pleased since she doesn't do much with 3rd party apps.

I follow the pixel threads too.

It's looking like we'll both be facing decisions soon.

I'm with Verizon and their choices of phones isn't what it used to be. Their main selections are I-Phones & Samsung, with remaining LG's, Pixels, Motorola's, and isolated brands. I may have to look at a new carrier also.
