Email Notification from old account

I have just recently received a 2+ year old Xperia E-something smartphone as I lost my old phone. I set it up without doing a factory reset as basically it was just a short replacement until my contract runs out in a few months. Everything is working fine, except I keep getting a strange Sign-In notification for the old user's gmail account (like, every 5 minutes it pops up), even though I removed his account from the phone settings and added my own. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can get rid of it?
Thanks

I would do a Long Press and go to that account, then go to Settings and turn off Notifications

If I bought a device from a third party the FIRST thing I would do is a Factory Data Reset. The next concern I would have is if it had ever been root-ed/modified/un-root-ed.
