I have a fairly simple question. On my Thunderbolt, I have the stock gmail app and the stock android mail app. As soon as i receive an email in my gmail account, I get the notification from the gmail app. However, I only get notifications from the stock Mail app (connected to various other pop accounts) when I open the Mail app and it manually syncs. Is there a way to get instant notifications for new email for email accounts other than gmail?

POP is a pull based system so you should get notifications as often as you have it set to check in the background (if it find a new/unread message).
That said you should check if you notice a difference with background sync enabled (general android setting), and also check how long between updates (in the settings of the mail app).
