Help Email stopped responding?

Recently, I keep getting a pop up notification that "Unfortunately, email has stopped" and I can choose either "report" or "ok". It happens even if the app isn't open and I'm not using it. Also, even more recently the app itself only works half the time and will get stuck on a blank, black screen and then force close. I can't uninstall or disable the app so I don't know how to fix it, and it's really starting to become a pain because it's interfering with my use of other apps?
I'm using a galaxy s5 and android version 4.4.4

If you can't uninstall or disable it, how about installing OVER it again?? Download the apk from a trusted site like the Android Police and just install it over the one that is giving you trouble. You might even be able to find a more up to date version of the app which could help too. The only other thing that comes to mind would be a factory reset, but that's a pain because you have to back everything up on your phone first. I'd try installing OVER the current app first and let us know how it goes!
