How do I clear the email trash folder?

Hello and thanks for asking. :)

Depending on which device and which version of the Android operating system you're running, and also depending on which email app you use, there are a few different ways to empty the email's deleted items which end up in the trash folder:

- Tap the trash folder and then tap the main menu button; an "empty" or "delete trash" item will appear

- If it's Gmail you can do it on line with your computer, or you can go into the settings menu and check the box "delete on exit," then just allow the trash folder to empty at regular intervals on its own (some versions are set to 30 days)

- If it's an email account you've set up with Yahoo or Hotmail, you can just tap the trash folder and remove individual or all items in there via the menu, or, as with Gmail, you can do it on line when on your computer and logged in to that account (Yahoo, etc)

This didn't work for me. I had some 1300 items in trash folder. I had thought for the past 18 months that when I deleted an email it was gone. As I clicked and deted today the trash folder just kept growning to over 3000. After much frustration today about emptying the trash, I finally deleted my email. It was completely gone. Then I set it up again. This action took about 5 minutes total. In the future, I will not elete from my phone email. My phone email is in sync with my email on the computer. Each time I access email on the computer the phone cleans off. there is currently nothing in the trash. I will keep it that way by not deleting from my phone.
