Email vs Gmail sync android 4.3

Hi,

Just upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 on my S3. I have two gmail accounts, one personal and one for a sports club I help admin, so I was (still am) using the gmail app for my personal account and the email app for the sports club. However, I cannot get Android 4.3 to sync contacts or calendar for the email app, only mail items.

The Sync settings via contacts does not include the 'email' app, nor is it in the list from the 'add account' sub-menu.

The sync settings via settings>accounts>email only has (a checked) option for syncing email.

Previously, under 4.1.2, contacts and calendar sync'd perfectly through this email app.

Nothing has been changed in the targeted gmail account settings.

What am I missing/doing wrong?

Sync of contacts and calendars has nothing to do with which email app you use. Contacts and calendars do not sync 'through' any email app. Sync for those is determined by the settings in Settings > Accounts. Select Google, then the desired account, then select what you want to sync.

Just curious, since both of the accounts are Gmail, why not simplify and use the Gmail app for both?

Settings>accounts does not give the option for syncing anything other than email for the sports club gmail address through 'Email'.

I was trying to replicate my previous set up as this a was a clean install of 4.3 from 4.1.2 and am confused as to why this limitation has occured.

I have added the sportsclub via google and that works fine in terms of contacts, but using a separate app meant getting separate notifications. The personal email is busy, with frequent activity, as opposed to the fairly quite sportsclub one, meaning activity on the latter was spotted easily when using the separate 'email' app. I'm not sure this is going to be the case using the 'gmail' app for both. I'm sure there will be a notifications setting to help with that, but the doesn't negate the fact that I could previously via 4.1.2 and now I can't in 4.3.

Thanks for the feedback so far, clearly this is not an issue for many.

OK, CD, i think I understand what you are saying: I use the email app for the sportsclub email and sync the other data (contacts&calendar) via google in accounts>sync?

There is a large list of sync-able items and outside of contacts and calendar, the ones I'm not sure about are 'app data' and 'people details' (how does the second differ from 'contacts')?

I need neither:

App data allows applications that have been developed specifically to support the feature to save their data in Google's cloud, associating it with your Google account. This is accomplished using the App Data folders feature of the Drive API, which was introduced around the same time last year and recently updated to make it more efficient for developers to implement on Android.
People details used for the Google Play Games services, to ensure a single identity is presented for you across games that integrate with the services. This uses information from your Google and/or Google+ accounts. For a list of the data associated with your "person," see here: com.google.android.gms.plus.model.people | Android Developers

Issue apparently resolved, thanks for helping me over the line.
