Apps Emulator help?

I am trying to use the Android SDK and AVD manager to run an emulator. I have Eclipse Galileo and the ADB plugin. I have downloaded all platforms (1.1, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0.1, and 2.1) and have successfully created an example virtual machine for each. When I select one and click "Start," the emulator and all associated buttons appear, but the screen remains black with ANDROID_ in white letters (the underscore is flashing.)

That's a sign that it's booting up the emulator, you have to give it a minute, just like a real device. Kinda silly in some ways that it takes so long.
