I am not 100% sure if there is an option to turn on pop-ups... have you tried using a different browser to the stock version and making it use full desktop websites (rather than the mobile-type)?
I have only had my A500 for a couple of weeks... you might like to have a check with other users in Acer Iconia Tab A500 - Android Forums
