Encore Folder

Newbie
Had my S5 for years and all of a sudden I noticed a folder in my Gallery called Encore. Has a lot of older images I took screenshots of and no longer have but also a lot of my "to keep" images. Also looked on my phone storage and an Encore folder exists there also with messages and images. Why after all this time did this folder appear. My wife has the same phone and there is neither folder present on her phone.

It is like the Recent or Timeline folder on the Galaxy tablets.

I am trying to see if I delete an image on the Encore folder will it erase the copy in my Gallery.

Has anybody run across this? I googled it and couldn't find much helpful info on this.

Two questions here. Have you selected to show hidden files in your file explorer? Does the Encore folder actually say Encore or .Encore? If it's not the full stop or period (depending where you're from) then deleting from there leaves the original. Although if you created the folder yourself then chances are you'll actually delete stuff off your phone.

Yes I have always had show hidden file selected. The folder is pass the ones with the .(period) before them. I definitely didn't create the folder and as I stated it has just recently shown up. I have been deleting some files out of the Encore folder in the Gallery and they are being retained in the folder they normally appear in.

I am going to do a little more studying on this before I delete the entire folder in the gallery and in the device storage(which also contains lots of text messages). I have a backup I make about every 2 months with Samsung Smart Switch and other backups so I probably will be alright if I loose something I want to keep.

If it's passed the one with the . then as long as you're using the stock browser and not rooted and using a root one then I'd say it's safe to delete. If you had to go through a hidden .file don't worry about it. Kinda like the .face folder. Irrelevant if you delete it as it'll pop up again some time later :)

It really is that if the root folder starts with a . then you can delete the whole folder without any harm. If an app you use needed to create some pointless files it'll recreate the . file ;)

I did some more checking and went ahead and deleted the Encore folder in the Gallery and on My Files and everything looks alright with no loss of my images.
Gained back the 350MB of space on the internal storage.

Thanks for the info S84.
