What a pain the Hero HTC has been. 
By the 2nd week of ownership, after being unable to register with the Market, I started to get numerous Data Call Failure boxes daily, even tho the rest of my phone was working.
I then called Sprint. Was finally told to do a factory reset....and though I can still receive phone calls, I can do NOTHING with my phone--cannot register my gmail account, have no home page, have lost everything, and still get those dang boxes. i.e. when I try to log in with my gmail, I get a registration failure notice that says "this could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services"
I then started my search on the net for answers. Found this forum: Issue 8636 - android - Google sync: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" - Project Hosting on Google Code which had a post #15 recommending this answer: cannot log in google server to have my new g1 to work. - Google Mobile Help But I have NO idea what they are talking about.
Is there any brilliant individual out there who can give me a kindergarten step-by-step answer to this ridiculous problem??
