Engadget Full Nexus 7 Review

Yeah, it actually comes off fairly balanced. The only thing that is annoying is that they keep referencing stuttering every once in awhile, and reference other android tablets, but don't mention the pauses that you get on iOS devices. I'd rather have something happen NOW and be choppy, then pause, wait to load, then fluidly load. Just get on with it and let me get my work done...

I don't agree with how much they harp on about the difference in content between Google and Amazon. Yes, Amazon's ecosystem has a better selection of overall content, but there's nothing stopping the consumer from buying this device and using Amazon services to their full potential, as there is an Amazon MP3 App, Kindle App, Amazon App Store, etc. You cannot access Google services on the Kindle, which is why I never considered it, but you can do whatever you like on the Nexus 7. I use the Amazon App Store, though not nearly as much as the Play Store. I use Kindle, and I use Amazon MP3, but that still wouldn't have been enough for me to buy the Fire. This will sit nicely alongside my Galaxy Nexus, that's for sure.

Edit: Spoke a bit too soon, as they did acknowledge that at the end of the wrap up. I can't wait to read BGR's scathing review of it.

Apparently you can't do the Amazon Instant streaming on generic android devices, and the kindle app doesn't support the lending library. Other than those 2 features, it's actually better to have the Nexus, since you have access to the full Google Play store.

You can not use the Amazon app, but in desktop mode Amazon Prime works through their web site. I watch X-Files on my Razr and TF300.

It even works using my iPad 3, but the Flash emulators make using the player not so good. Normal Flash sites are okay though...... Hey! It is an iPad 3, so that is better than nothing.

I own a KF and this is my one gripe about it. I have to look through the App store for the same app or a comparable replacement instead of just using the apps I'm accustomed to. On a pure Android device I can do both. I never use the lending library and the only thing I would miss is the streaming, but I find I rarely do that because of the battery suck and I'd just rather watch it from a local copy or stream to someplace else.

Netflix and Hulu are just as prevalent to consumers as Amazon Video. In fact, I don't know anyone persoanlly that uses Amazon Video. I know a few Prime users at school, but thats it. My Hulu Plus and Netflix accounts will more than make up for the absence of Amazon Video.

Once again, Amazon works via the web browser in desktop agent mode, unless it is designed not to for the N7.

View with GB works fine
TF300 with ICS works fine
Razr with ICS works fine

No one's debating whether it works in the browser. Many people will look for an actual app, which Hulu, Netflix, Xfinity, and smaller services like crackle, readily provide. It's fine that it works in the browser, but for the layman it's not as convenient as the app. It's moot, for me at least, because I don't use Amazon video, and don't know many people who do anyway.
