Root Epic 2.5 + 928DroidBG = triple sms/mms?

Hello all.. been awhile since I've posted..moved from D1 to D2.. and loving it

I've been following all the root sections in the various forums, and following suit with the latest and greatest. My last adventure did not go so well.

I .sbf'ed back to stock.. rerooted..and installed Epic 2.5 with the 928Droid black glass deodex theme over it. I ended up bringing back my nandroid of my previous setup rather quickly. Seems no matter what I would do..clearing app data, changing messaging settings, etc., I would receive double and triple mms/sms messages from everyone.

Is this a problem with the rom? Or the result of conflicting apps the theme installed?

I will ask the obvious question since I know nothing about your setup.

Do you have any other SMS apps installed besides the stock, like Handcent?

If so, you need to go to the SMS apps that you're not using, and turn off notifications.

Actually the problem isn't notifications. I actually saw three copies of each message received in the message thread itself. This is both in handcent and the stock app, and even the stock app alone with handcent uninstalled. I tried everything I could think of before going back to my old setup....

It's the latter issue.

The 928Droid D2 theme is designed to install over the stock D2 ROM...it's not surprising you ran into issues, as the theme "makes assumptions" about what apps are on the phone and where, and if you have a non-stock setup (e.g., a custom ROM) things are likely go go wrong.

That does make sense.. I might try copying the messaging apps from my current setup, deleting those from epic, replacing them with these.. then applying the theme.
maybe that will work.

There are other issues aside from apps...configuration files and such...you may not be able to totally fix things by moving apps around, but it's worth a try.
