equivalent function as VoiceOver on ipad available on Android?

I'm trying to find a way to have my android phone read ebooks to me. (I do mean ebooks, not audiobooks.) Ebook apps I use include kobo and amazon kindle.

on the ipad there is a VoiceOver feature which kind of allows me to do that. Is there such a thing on android, or some kind of read aloud feature?

Beyond ebooks, I would also like to have android read emails and text msgs to me so I can get to "read"/hear my emails & txts while driving.

Check your accessibility options- that has some things in there I've never used but might help

If you got Android 4.0 ICS and above, it can read emails and messages to you. Not sure about ebooks I've never used them, but I guess that might depend on the particular service.
