I'll re-phrase: Open a program on your phone that uses GPS information. You are now using your phone as a GPS.

I think you'll want to run the Maps application that's included with your phone (with GPS turned on, of course). If you have upgraded to Android 2.1, you can also use the Navigator app, which gives turn-by-turn directions like a traditional GPS nav.
