Europe’s Galileo satellite navigation system is finally online

Europe's Galileo satellite global positioning system is finally online. Galileo uses 18 satellites and allows users to track their position, anywhere on the planet, with 1-meter accuracy. Galileo also offers a paid subscription which increases position accuracy to 1 centimeter. The Huawei Mate 9, the Mate 9 Pro, Mate 9 Porsche Edition, and BQ Aquaris X5 Plus can already use the Galileo navigation system, but most 2016 smartphones running Qualcomm's new processors will be able to as well after a software update.

Minor clarifications....

Galileo has just entered its planned Early Operational Capability (EOC) stage now that 18 birds are in orbit, the minimum required for accurate global geolocation. Full Operational Capability (FOC) is planned for 2019, with the full constellation of 24 operational satellites and 6 redundant spares scheduled to be in orbit in 2020.

Also, as per a signed agreement in 2004. the GPS and Galileo systems use a common signal modulation to allow co-existence, so the list of supported devices should be much greater than those in the link.
