Everytime I try to play a game on my android netbook...

Hello, first time poster here...

Everytime that I try to play a game on my Android netbook, the screen rotates 90 degrees. I am using Android version 2.1.1

I downloaded a few things from the App Market; minesweeper, slice, spaceman, and kindle (all for testing purposes).

Sometimes the Kindle does NOT rotate, but the games always rotate. I'm assuming the rotating is because this is an operating system designed for a cell phone.

I wanted to know if anyone had an idea of a keyboard command that might allow me to rotate the screen back, or of any way to turn the auto-rotate off? I've tried CTRL+ALT+Left or Right, also CTRL+Left or Right, FN+F12, FN+CTRL+F12, etc.

Nothing seems to work... I tried to find and download an app called "rotation toggler" and "auto rotate switch", hoping I can turn the auto rotate OFF, but I can't seem to find these apps.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Obviously it'd be GREAT if there was a simple keyboard command. Thanks.

This happens when the manufacturer hacks the Android OS to display the screen in landscape by default instead of the usual portrait mode for phones. There is nothing you can do about it but talk to the manufacturer or look for cooked ROMs that will work with your Netbook. This is a very common issue with Android tablets as well.

I thought this might be the case. I appreciate the response.

I find it interesting that I can get Kindle to be oriented properly. But if I go play a game, and then re-open Kindle, Kindle is rotated 90 degrees to the left. If, at this point, I lock the android, and then unlock it, Kindle is oriented properly [landscape].

I've tried locking and unlocking the Android with the games open, but this "trick" only seems to work with Kindle.

I wonder if this is because Kindle is an application that can be viewed in portrait OR landscape, while the games can ONLY be viewed in portrait. Just thinking outloud I guess.

Other than this App Market issue, this unit is fairly nice. The Android UI is pleasant. Internet and YouTube works very well. And viewing photos, video, and listening to music works well. It would be nice if I could download a few games and such, but so far it appears only Kindle is functional.

Some of those games are automatically rotated. I know spaceman is.

Yeah, you're right. Apparently some Apps are designed to only be viewable in one orientation or the other. I guess this is sort of my "Duh!" moment, so I apologise for my ignorance =x

With that said, I was able to download "SwitchPro Widget" which has an "on/off" toggle for Auto-rotate. I turned the auto-rotate off, and as anticipated, it did NOT fix the orientation of the games...

BUT, for the Kindle App I have, which sometimes was orientated in portrait that I could only resolve by locking and then unlocking android, now, with SwitchPro Widget running, if it ever opens up in portrait, it automatically switches (no pun intended) it back to landscape view.

So I'm very happy with that :)
