Help excessive notifications taking up the whole screen

Hi guys,

So after the new update for android, I've been dealing with the most annoying thing - Whatsapp notifications.
Hear me out, so you know how usually when you get a lot of messages at once the traditional notification display at the top of the screen would be "17 messages from 4 conversations", for example, but for some reason when i Get an influx of messages at the same time, they fill out my whole screen by showing themselves all to me at once. It is extremely aggravating when I'm on youtube etc because it floods out the whole screen.

Does anybody know what I can do?

I don't use WhatsApp, but look at the app settings and the system notification settings and try to stop WhatsApp notifications being "high priority".
