Exchange Activesync Question

I just got my first Android phone, a Motorola Milestone with Telus.

I use Exchange 2007 and setup activesync with the builtin email client and it works great, however, the view is one folder at a time. I have many rules setup to move emails from specific sources to specific folders since I receive a lot of email in a day from many different clients and vendors.

The problem I see is that I have to manually switch from one folder to another and hit refresh to see new emails in the subfolders.

I installed the Touchdown trial last night and this app works beautifully, you can view by single folder or by 'all folders' so all the new emails from all folders show up in the same place.

My question is, am I going to have to shell out the $20 USD for Touchdown, or is there something I'm missing to setup this correctly on the builtin software?

Lastly, will this feature work in 2.2 on the builtin client?

Stock email app with exchange sync works as of 2.1. I'm rooted 2.2 and had no problems setting it up, it actually syncs with new mail faster than my work laptop, so I get my emails faster on my phone. My complaint is although there is a signature field in the stock app (motor Droid), it does not actually show my signature when sending emails. In fact in comparing the two, the stock is just plain ugly when formatting mail and touchdown actually keeps the original email format (I.e. shows whole thread vs. Just the recent 'quoted' message) and it allows for signature. I've put tons of time into researching the exchange thing BC prior to 2.1 refused to believe I was stuck having to carry my blackberry in addition to my Droid just for email. So....long and short of it is, imho Touchdown is the winner. As far as I know there's nothing out there that compares to touchdown for mail format, rules, and...awesome dev support.

I haven't paid for it yet either but since I'm officially ending my relationship with the bb today *yay* I will shell out the dough.

Thanks for the reply. I really enjoy the Touchdown app so I appreciate your comments. I think I'm going to go for it and buy it.

The stock app works great for me, however, not being able to see a combined folder for all email notifications like how Touchdown works, is a huge problem for me.

Plus I like being able to set up out of office etc... from the device, the stock app doesn't do this.

While I never even attempted to setup my N1 natively to my work's Exchange server (this is a personal phone), I did spring for Touchdown as a way to help keep work separated, but accessible if necessary. (So I can't really answer your question about getting the native app working like you desire.) And I have to say that the tech support (the one time I had to use it for a license issue) was spectacular. Answered my question on a holiday weekend. So, another vote for them, and especially for the support. Gave them 5 stars in the market.
 
I am currently madly in love with Touchdown. My boss, bless his pointy little head, has decided that we computer techs who work for him don't need e-mail on our phones. He feels if we can get e-mail on our phones we will be less efficient workers. So if we are out at a client site and the ladies who schedule us decide we need to address some other issue, they will call us and ask us to check our e-mail. Then we will fire up our tablets and use RPC over HTTP w/Outlook or OWA to get our e-mail and find out all the gory details of the issue.

Touchdown apparently uses RPC over HTTP and gets all my mail on my phone. It works amazingly well. My only gripe about it is that it can't retrieve e-mail that's already in my inbox from before I installed it. It can only get copies of all my mail going forward.
 
Moxier doesn't seem to have a demo version so I can't try it out. Does it work with servers where ActiveSync is not turned on?

Actually, you can. You can even choose how far back you'd like to sync. I believe default is 3 days. But you can have it sync how ever far back you want.

If your in your mailbox, access the tools/settings icon, click the advanced tab, then choose your option for email to synchronize.

That was actually the first thing I tried. It didn't work. I'm guessing it's probably dependent on ActiveSync somehow and ActiveSync isn't turned on on our Exchange server.
 
I cant seem to figure out how to disable vibrate for email notifications from touchdown, could someone lend a hand please?

Have you tried settings up a custom sound and no vibration in the Email Alerts and Appointment Alerts in the settings (advanced tab)?
 
Does anyone have any tips on how to change the default font for TD? Im trying to set up my email to mirror email from my desktop and the default font is a little big for me.

Its ok the dev got back to me that fast. :) FYI its not able to change font and color yet just font size. He told me to change the size to 11px.
