Exchange: How to disable mail - only sync calendar

Hi there,

I want to connect my Android phone to my office exchange account. But I only want to sync the calendar. I do not want to receive mails with this account. So I set up the account and disabled "Sync e-mail". Only "Sync calendar" and "Sync tasks" are active. But nevertheless, the stock mail app still shows this exchange account. It does not receive mails automatically via push data - that's fine. But mails are read from the server when I manually refresh the message list within the mail app.
I do not want to have this account in the mail app AT ALL! I just want to sync the calendar.

Do you have any idea how this can be done?

I'm using: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Android 4.4.4

Cheers
David

You need to use another email client such as AquaMail that does not automatically add all accounts on the phone to the email client, as you found happens with the stock email client. There are no doubt other email apps that would work like you need such as Maildroid, maybe K9, but I can't say for certain which ones other than AquaMail.

Hi,

thanks, I already feared I would have to use an alternative mail client. Currently many mail clients for Android store my account credentials on their own servers to deliver push mail and other services. Can you recommend a good app, that doesn't store the username/password combinations of my mail accounts on their servers?

Cheers
David

AquaMail doesn't. I don't think many clients do, if any. I can't think of why they would need to store passwords on their own server. Passwords are stored locally on the phone and, of course, on the account mail service system, necessary for any mail service to do authentication.

I really, really like AquaMail. I settled on it after much experimentation with email clients, trying to find one that combined a easy UI with all the capabilities needed for our business use. AquaMail is extremely configurable. It has options for just about anything you might need. A very good developer keeps it updated and it has excellent support by a nice built-in help system, a website and user forum or email. Only $5 and worth every penny.

That said, there's several other fine email clients available. Poke around and choose what you like best.
