A ROM is an unofficial software but in this case if you choose to do the ROM method it is just flashing the stock software with root access through clockworkmod. When you boot back up nothing will be different besides a couple of extra apps and root access.

WHY? Why would you pay for something like that? That's just upsetting... if there's a super user application in your system apps than your good.

Download this app from the Play store, it will tell you if your phone is rooted or not.

I was having the same problems. This link will take you to a method I figured out to keep the phone the way it was when you bought it, only rooted.
