External flash drive size limit?

Was thrilled to learn a USB org cable let me read from a USB flash drive, allowing me to move files back and forth from my PC to the tablet.

Alas it won't recognize my lexar 32gb flash drive. It will read a 2gb flash drive by lexar and a sandiskb8gb.

What gives? Is there some setting I can change?

I tried two different org cables by two different manufacturers.

I checked and the 32Gb Lexar flashdrive is Fat32, same as my 8Gb Sandisk. Yet the Toshiba only recognizes the Sandisk.

the flashdrive works with my work desktop, home desktop and home Laptop... but not the Toshiba.

Could it be a mediascanner problem? Does Android 4 launch mediascanner on flashdrives? Maybe I'm not waiting long enough?

I have a 1TB hard drive that is ready to go pretty quickly when I plug it into mine.

You could try reformatting maybe? I honestly don't know, I'm sorry.

Did some more experimenting...

I reformatted, into Fat32 again. Still doesn't recognize it.

Had a friend try it on his Samsung Galaxy S3- he gets a "Damaged USB" message.

That's when I noticed that I'm only showing 29.4Gb instead of 32Gb, even when freshly formatted with no bloatware, etc

I assume it's my luck- I've once againt purchased a one-in-a-million damaged/defective product.

I'll see if I can't get Lexar to send me a new one...

What type of adapter are you using? I just bought a micro USB male to USB A female adapter and it doesn't fit correctly into my Excite. It was only a few bucks from Amazon so I won't be sending it back I just want to make sure I get the right one next time.

It has to be a usb otg adapter- On The Go. It's micro usb on one end, female usb on the other. Amazon sells them for about $1 if you look around. I recommend the right angled one so it doesn't block the micro hdmi port... or maybe it's the left angled. I can't remember now.

Old thread I know but this may help others searching for a solution like me.

I have a Lenovo Yoga8 tablet (Android 4.2.2) and can use various manufacturer flash drives up to 16GB(Lexar) with an OTG USB cable. BUT my Lexar 32GB can also not be read like the OP. All drives are FAT32 formatted.

BTW, formatted 32GB is actually 29.8 so drive is probably OK too.

I wonder whether this is actually a Micro OTG USB power issue on these tablets?
