External mic for Samsung s5?

Lurker
External microphone for this s5, is there even an option out there to improve this audio? I'm always shooting all kinds stuff. All I find is bunch of unique accessories for apple products

You can plug in almost any mic that will work (probably a capacitive mic). It doesn't have to be one specifically called a cellphone external mic, or even an S5 external mic, as long as it's the right type (there are about 5 different types of mic) and it has the right plug wired the right way.

Sweet, thanks for the info.. I came across the Audio Technica AT9913iS.. by any chance would you or anyone out there know if there's a mic that's half that size but with that same mount set up cause is what I'am looking just not that big of a mic lol

Anytime you talk about something, please provide a link for us to follow.

Just good forum etiquette.

Now after random searching, the one on the left looks slightly better. Can't read the box lol maybe if I email audio technica maybe they can ID it..

so I contacted b&h, they told me There are 2 requirements for smartphones. I will need a mic that is battery powered, as the phone will not be able to provide this, and I will need an adapter to connect into the phone. Any truth to this? I did also ask about At9913is they can't confirm if that mic would work. I did msg audio technica.. Yet no respond

You will probably need a "condenser" type mic. Those require power which can be supplied via an internal battery, power from a camcorder, or from another mixer or recorder (called phantom power). Short shotgun mics often require power and can include an internal AA, AAA, or CR123 battery. Handheld mics are typically "dynamic" and do not require power but may not work with a phone. To use the mic with your phone, you need an XLR-to-mini plug adapter such as the Sennheiser KA-600 or KA-600i. The former has 3 conductors, the latter has 4. iPhones require the KA-600i. Check to see what your particular Android device requires as it can vary from model to model.
