external signal booster?

I have looked through the other threads regarding external signal boosters none of them really address my question.

Question: Is there an external signal booster that WORKS but does not required you to mount a antenna outside and link to the inside one?

My situation: at my desk I get no signal, but if i walked 20 feet away I can get 2-3 bars full time.

Just looking for something I can setup at my desk that will boost my phone antenna with out having to setup an outdoors device to link with it.

TIA for any help.

I have an HTC EVO, which has no external bolts. Also I don't see this being all that functional on modern smart phones. :)

wondering if those mini towers u can buy and plug into the phone work.

I was walking in officemax the other day and I saw little metal stickers you can put in the battery door that are supposed to "boost signal"

I know those are 100% bs. pretty sure if it only cost 50cents to boost a signal it would have been included with the phone.

I'm referring more to the external mini towers i have seen online.

Any antenna that does not hook directly up to a power source will not boost anything. In order for the antenna to work it need to have a power source. Now if it is power from the phone or repeater, it does not matter, it needs power. Stickers, wire, metal, and all the rest will not work.

So is there no external antenna with an external power source to boost a signal? everything I seem to find on google just appears to be either BS or something that must be linked to an outside receiver.

AT&T offers a "micro cell" that connects to your home network and provided increased signal to your phone while in your home. Basically your calls will be VOIP when connected to the micro cell. Your calls will hand off to the cell network when ou leave the house on a call, but it will not hand of into the micro cell when you come home while on a call.

Im not sure if other carriers offer something similar

wilson wireless makes extenders they are not cheap but they work fabulously boosted from 1 bar to full signal on verizon and att phones of my friends.

Check out the Nextivity Cel-Fi. You put a unit by a window where you get good signal and that relays the signal to another unit somewhere in the building - all without wires.

The Wilson stuff is good, but in the UK we are not allowed to user boosters/amplifiers...

that wire addition might work. These smart phones are just using radios for wireless connections, although there is alot required to building a good antenna. (c iphone4 issues!)
