External USB Hub / Card reader

Dopey

Lurker
I have recently purchased an external usb card reader/usb hub in order to view the contents from standard size usb sticks on my Samsung galaxy tab 3 7" whilst away from home. However I can't get it to work. I plug it in via the micro socket at the bottom of the tablet and it does nothing. I have powered it with an external supply but still nothing. I have tried various apps from the play store but some won't run as they are missing files??? has anyone managed to work out what software I need to use this device. This is the device http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360982288834?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Thanks

Could be all the choices in a hub are messing it up. You have at least 4 extra drives on most. They do use drivers, most are in computers already. Windows always does "found new device" when you plug one in.

Belkin probably has an adapter from standard to Micro. I'm lucky, my older tablet does use regular USB. Works pretty well.
If you do look, there are other good companies besides Belkin, ask. Don't buy from a fly-by-night site.

This is a common Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 complaint. First, find out if your model even supports OTG USB. Check out "USB Host Diagnostics"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.usbhostdiagnostics

And yes, Samsung did screw up the drivers on a number of the Tab 3s sold so that the port is not properly working in OTG USB mode - but the only thing that you can do to fix it is to root and see if you can find a custom rom with the problem solved.

Most OTG cable/adapters supposedly guaranteed to work with the Tab 3 simply don't, so don't go buying more stuff.

Lots of people have been burned trying to get this sales promise to work out.
