External v. emulated photos

Rgarner

It's weird that if I look at some photos with Google it says emulated, but then if I check the same thing with My Files, it's external. Which is it? Could it actually be one way with one and the other way with the other?

What is your device and Android version?

Do you actually have use a SD card? If yes, was your SD card formatted as internal storage?

It's a Samsung S5 with 6.0.1. I just got this Infinitive 32 gb sd card. There was no opportunity to format it. It just said SD card For transferring photos and media.

I'd expect that your file browser (My Files) should know where the file is. And either it or you Gallery app should be able to show the full file path, which should be definitive. If unsure post the full path here.

When you say "look with Google", exactly which Google app do you mean?

I mean Google photos. My Files shows it differently. That's why I'm unsure. I want to put as much as I can on sd to save actual phone space.

I suggest using a good Files manager like this, you won't confuse the internal memory with SD card.

Which one is that? I've got X-plore but I admit I haven't used it as much as I probably should. I guess it works similarly.
