Extremely pissed off with Verizon, please advise

So my Droid X broke and I go to buy a new phone. I bought the Razr Maxx, which is nice used the upgrade and paid the $200 for the phone and the annoying $30 upgrade fee. But now I want to return it and wait for the Galaxy S3. I go into the store and explain this to an employee and when I mention the S3 he looks at me and says "Never heard of it", I ask the employee next to him and he says "No, never heard of it.". I stand there in awe for a few seconds then ask about returning my phone. They say there will be a $35 restocking fee, ok fine, but then they say they wont refund my upgrade fee. So it's effectively $65 to return my phone, is there anything I can do about this? Also am I crazy or is it absolutely insane that two employees who work at a Verizon store don't know what the S3 is?

They should be refunding your upgrade fee, since they'll effectively be reinstating your account to have an available upgrade that they'll charge you for later.

It's not unheard of for reps to not know about a phone until they're given documentation about it.. and there's no official documentation of the phone out yet. Remember not all reps follow sites like tbese.

I dunno about the return aspect of it but I have found more than 1 rep that, in my opinion, was lacking in knowledge they should have. I talked to one before and said GSM and CDMA and he looked at me like I was using a secret language. I'm sure there are numerous reps out there that are working there that have an interest in their job but I think some, if not many, just need a job.

Correct Firebird. Many just need a job. I don't think Verizon encourages much regarding knowledge of upcoming phones. They want them to sell the phones that are forsale now, not phones that will be released sometime in the future. This could be reinforced by the fact that Verizon doesn't officially announce new phones more than a week or two in advance.

The best info regarding upcoming phones can be had on forums like this one. Except if you want info on the Maxx HD/Fighter. Then it's like pulling rhino teeth! :D

Oh well, mom always said, "Good things come to those who wait". Mom was right lots of times.

How long did you have the MAXX? I'm actually a bit surprised they will refund the upgrade fee as you did receive any upgrade and many of the supposed related costs would be incurred in the first 14 days, but according to http://support.verizonwireless.com/faqs/Wireless%20Service/upgradefee.html, if a device is returned within the 14 day return period then the upgrade fee should be refunded. If it has been longer than 14 days then you would be lucky if they are offering to accept the return for just that $30 fee plus the $35 restocking fee.

I am not surprised that the response of employees in the store would be that they do not know about a phone that is not available, that has no release date and that was pretty much just been confirmed should be coming to Verizon. Remember that for some of the employees it is a job, not a passion or hobby, and they may get as far away from it as possible outside of work rather than hanging out on forums like this. And even if they do know about the Galaxy S3, they may not be able to say they know about it.

You do realize that there is a decent chance the Galaxy S3 will not be available until after the new data plans go into effect?

It's funny that most of us call VZW idiots for doing stuff that doesn't make sense but think they are genius' when they could do something to screw us over and/or cost us money. Fact is, we still have no idea when the new data plans take effect and we are just assuming the worst.

I would put my money on the new plans being around before the iPhone5, but how soon we have no idea. Hopefully they are stupid enough to release the S III before the new plan.
