F-Droid - how to get/how to install

justamel

Newbie
I am not familiar at all with installing apps to a cellphone. I have ended up with a Motorola G Power 2021 and it is TOTALLY filled with apps that are tied to Google.

Long time ago Google locked me out of my email because I refused to provide them with additional personal information. So, I have no access to Play Store even if I wanted to do so.

I am on my laptop to access this forum and ask: How do I get F-Droid app so that I can then get apps to use on my phone? Can I download it onto this laptop and then install it to my phone? It doesn't seem logical to use Google's Chrome browser to get F-Droid so that I can then Avoid Any And All Google apps. I don't want to continue even limited web browsing via Chrome.

Maybe this very dumb but can someone inform me on this?

Get online with your phone and use the following link.

https://f-droid.org/

There is a prompt in the beginning to download the app.

There are benefits to the app, however you can search for and download apps right from the site.

Also, since you will not be using Google (thank God), here are the links for two more excellent appstores.
These have apps for themselves, as well as being accessible from their sites- just like F-Droid.

https://en.uptodown.com/

https://m.apkpure.com/

Between these 3, you should not miss anything about the Play Store.

I will say that I look for apps first on F-Droid, then UpToDown, and finally ApkPure.

Also, some folks here like ApkMirror.
It is also a trusted appstore that has an app as well as site accessibility.

Let me know if you have questions/issues with any of these.

Yes you can copy it to the phone and install it. Direct link to the F-Droid APK install file if you want to download it to your laptop:

If that's your only reason for avoiding Google products you can create a new email account to access the Play Store.
