Face recognition disabled after update

Hi. Since my S8 updated to Android 8.0.0 a couple of weeks ago the Face Recognition function has stopped working. An alert when I wake up the screen tells me that the 'security policy' means I have to use fingerprint or PIN. I've tried all kinds of resetting, re-applying recognition etc etc to no avail. Cant find anything via Google. Can anyone help?? Thanks.

Years ago in a casino I worked in, the casino decided to invest in this facial recognition software. Upper management said it would help us catch more bad guys. To start out they set up a camera that take pictures of team members and bring up their information on a computer in the surveillance room. It didn't really work out. 80% of the time it took pictures of nothing. The other 20% of the time it took random shots of various things and identified them. A beverage server passed through the camera area it snapped a picture of her chest and identified it as the director of slots. It identified the back side of a security officer as the CEO. After six months they ditched the system.

Have you been relying on face recognition without setting a PIN or password at all? In Android 8 you can use biometrics but you need something more secure set in addition, which it will use the first time after a reboot and perhaps request occasionally (roughly once every other day on my Pixel, which I unlock with fingerprint dozens of times a day). It also provides a backup should there be a problem with the biometric.

So try setting a PIN and then switching back to face recognition.

Hi there and thanks for responding. I had also set up a PIN and fingerprint recognition but I preferred dace as it was so quick and easy. I have tried removing and rescanning face but it's clearly blocked by the new security policy that came with the software update. Very annoying!
