Face unlock performance

I thought I'd try face unlock, and at first it seemed OK. Then over the next couple of days I noticed the phone slowing when being used.
So when I returned from an app to the home screen I had to wait for the screen to be repainted. Also some apps (beyondpod) stopped when running in background.

I turned off face unlock and the problem (so far) had not returned.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Haven't seen that issue using smart lock>trusted face. It's entirely possible that it's somehow messing with things if you didn't change anything else when you turned that off
